Principal's Message

Jeff Peterson - Principal, Summit View Elementary

Summit View Magnet School is a learning community focused on integrating the arts, creativity and design. This is a very special school filled with innovative instruction and personalized learning experiences for all students. Each student is given a personal technology device to help them in the learning process. Our student population of about 650 students in 4K - 5th grade is made up of students from our own community as well as students from across Waukesha that choose this school because of its’ arts focus.

Our beautiful school is located on a large grassy hillside near a wooded portion of land that lends itself to many experiential learning activities. Summit View offers rigorous science, math and literacy curriculum with the additional level of arts integration. This optimal learning environment allows students to demonstrate their learning in various learning modalities.

Staff and students at Summit View are supported by many wonderful, active families who participate in a wide variety of activities throughout the school year. In addition to specialized instruction in art, music and movement, some students at Summit View receive individual and group band instruction, as well as an opportunity for string and keyboard lessons. Other special student electives include studio broadcasting, drama, filmmaking, science, chess, robotics, swimming, cross country and world language clubs.

Educating students at the highest level of brain function - creativity - produces statewide academic results consistently above the state and district averages. Because of our arts focus, our school community benefits from local and national partnerships. The First Stage Children’s Theater, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts are two such partners.

I always like to say that we are a big school with a small school feel. Our dedicated staff cares about children and their achievement. Students want to come here everyday because of the high level of engagement and support of all learning styles.
